Dr. Kelly A. Collins

Quimby & Collins Orthodontics | Indian Land, SC

Growing up in Ohio, Dr. Kelly Collins could usually be found on a playing field or court. She excelled in soccer and basketball, playing both sports in high school and college, was selected as a high school and collegiate soccer All-American, and was invited to try out for the Women’s US World Cup Soccer team. She was also the first athlete at Revere High School to be selected as an All-American, and was later elected into both the Revere High School and St. Mary’s College Athletic Hall of Fame. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Biology, before entering the Master of Education program at John Carroll University in Cleveland, where she sought to combine her passion for science with teaching — only to discover that patient care was the missing piece she truly wanted to pursue. She went on to graduate from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and completed her orthodontic residency at The Ohio State University, earning a Master of Science in Orthodontics.

Dr. Collins believes being an orthodontist is the greatest job in the world because it combines her love of science, the arts, and teaching with her passion for patient care. She believes the discipline, teamwork, and drive for excellence she developed as an athlete directly helped her accomplish her goal of becoming an orthodontist and remain fully present in her practice every day. Together with her partner Dr. Meredith Quimby — whom she met at The Ohio State University Orthodontic Program — Dr. Collins shares a passion for collaboration, continually challenging one another with new ideas and perspectives to deliver the best possible outcomes for every patient. Both doctors are Diplomats of the Board of Orthodontics and active members of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Charlotte Dental Society, and the American Cleft Lip and Palate Association.

Beyond the office, Dr. Collins is as much a fixture in the Indian Land community as she is in the clinic. As a proud member of the Rotary Club of Indian Land, she is dedicated to serving the community she calls home. You might spot her tossing candy from a float at the Indian Land Holiday Parade, dishing out her secret recipe at the Chili Cook-Off, or teeing it up at High Seas Putt Putt Golf. She and Dr. Quimby proudly support organizations including the Carolinas Center for Cleft Lip & Palate Surgery, Smiles Change Lives, the March of Dimes, and numerous local scholastic and athletic endeavors. A devoted mother, Dr. Collins cheers loudly for her daughter — a proud University of South Carolina Gamecock — and bleeds Garnet & Black every football Saturday. Holy South Cackalacky, indeed!

Yes, We have an amazing 3-D printer. The Sprint Ray allows us to print an exact model of you teeth, as well as fidget spinners, Pokemon figures, pretty much anything and everything. We have even hosted STEM classes over the summer to help teach students about 3-D printing.

Sorry, No can do. They are a little finicky at times and must be handled with care.

Possibly. These are common symptoms that may indicated an underlying orofacial myofunctional disorder. Early intervention is key. Widening the upper jaw to allow better airway breathing thru the nose is extremely important for proper growth and development of the face and jaws and airway.

Myofunctional Therapy is a growing area of research that helps healthcare providers use myofunctional therapy (also called Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy or OMT) to treat abnormal muscle movement patterns in the mouth and face that affect how you breathe, chew, swallow and/or speak. Myofunctional therapy trains muscles in your mouth and face to move as they should and rest in the proper positions. OMT involves doing certain exercises with your cheek, tongue or lips. These exercise strengthen your muscles and fine-tune your awareness of facial movement. Most dentist and orthodontists have not received formalized training in diagnosing and treating oralfacial myofunctional disorders, but our orthodontists are recognized as regional experts in OMT and referrals are welcome.

Yes, we have Staff led dental education presentations for elementary schools and High-School Student led Anti-vaping Presentations which are very impactful.
